SSAIB Certified

What does this mean?

The Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) are the leading certification body for organisations providing security systems and services, fire detection and alarm systems, telecare systems and services, manned security services and monitoring services. Founded in 1994, the SSAIB operates on a not-for-profit basis. It promotes high standards of service and is focused on serving the certification needs of organisations providing security and safety-related services.

SSAIB’s standards ensure that companies comply with all Police policies (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic) and insurers – often as a condition of their underwriting – place particular demands on security and fire safety system providers. SSAIB certification from accredited firms allow insurers to clarify that all reasonable precautions have been taken to mitigate risk. Certification with SSAIB is a mark of excellence and evidences that the accredited company follows all UK standards and completes work to a hight standard.

BAFE (British Approvals For Fire Equipment)

BAFE Registered - BAFE Fire Safety Register
BAFE Registered – BAFE Fire Safety Register

BAC are accredited by BAFE for the Design, Installation, repair and maintenance of Fire Alarm systems, but What does this mean?

There are many reasons to use a BAFE accredited company, here are some of them.

BAC is independently and unbiasedly assessed for competency:

As a BAFE Registered Company, BAC have been independently and regularly assessed by a UKAS Accredited Certification Body to ensure they are competent to deliver your required service.

BAC voluntarily employ professionals to provide assurance of service excellence:

This independent assessment from BAFE is completely voluntary, meaning BAC’s own time and money is used to demonstrate our commitment to quality, proving that we are skilled professionals that can meet your requirements.

BAC provides Evidential Competency and Confidence you have acted with due diligence:

As the person responsible for fire safety, you will receive certificated evidence of BAC’s competency. Your insurers may be interested in seeing this evidence, especially if you have to make a claim. This certificated evidence demonstrates due diligence in sourcing a competent provider to help meet your fire safety obligations.

BAC has regular assessments to ensure ongoing competency and service excellence:

We are assessed by BAFE annually, meaning ongoing assessment of Our competency with up to date relevant standards and best working practice. BAFE scheme criteria for third party certification is monitored and reviewed regularly by BAFE Scheme working groups using industry experts to ensure they are always at the leading edge of the fire protection industry. This means that the BAFE certification scheme remains the most up to date representation of quality and competency for specific fire safety services.

 BAC is Monitored for compliance:

BAFE monitor registered companies to ensure they continue to work to the scheme criteria at all times. If for any reason our competency falls into disrepute, this will be investigated and if confirmed, our BAFE registration will be suspended until rectified or terminated.

Using BAFE companies is Recommended by Government Fire and Rescue Services across the UK:

It is recommended by Government, from both GOV.UK and GOV.SCOT fire safety guidance, to use third party certificated providers for fire protection services as “an effective means of providing the fullest possible assurances, offering a level of quality, reliability and safety that non-certificated products [and services] may lack” (GOV.UK Fire Safety Guidance Documents). Multiple Fire and Rescue Services across England and Wales recommend this and is strongly encouraged by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also stress that a competent person should be used “to enable them to implement the appropriate fire safety measures”.

In summary

There are plenty of providers available in the UK who claim third party certification is not necessary, but who is assessing their competency? Would you really want to take the risk?
